ABOUT US

YOUNG STAR MENTORING

Young Star Mentoring coaches and mentors young people who have had difficulties in life both personally and socially, by guiding them through a training program of personal development. We teach them to be part of a team, encourage discipline, respect, self worth and a deeper sense of community.  We are a self funding organisation and rely on donations, if you would like to help please visit our just giving page.

About

PASSION

Our aim is to show young people how to make better choices in life and how to lead more healthier, fruitful and productive lives. We achieve this through physical fitness, adventurous training and hiking expeditions in the UK and abroad. The trips we lead are to some of the most beautiful parts of the UK such as Snowdonia, Lake district and The Brecon Beacons. We also lead regular pilgrimage expeditions in Northern Spain on the Camino De Santiago.

TRUST

Trust is one of the foundational building blocks. We need trust to establish and deepen our friendships. Trust allows us to feel safe with friends: safe to make plans and safe to share ourselves and our lives.

CONNECTION

Connecting with others is one of the most highly valued and rewarding parts of life. Close friends improve our outlook on life and our general well-being, making any unpleasant experience much easier to bear. The connections we form with our friends are also quite strong, offering reliable support that nothing else quite matches.

FRIENDSHIP

Good friends are good for your health. Friends can help you celebrate good times and provide support during bad times. Friends prevent loneliness and give you a chance to offer needed companionship, too.

Friends can also:

  • Increase your sense of belonging and purpose

  • Boost your happiness and reduce your stress

  • Improve your self-confidence and self-worth

  • Help you cope with traumas, such as divorce, serious illness, job loss or the death of a loved one

  • Encourage you to change or avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as excessive drinking or lack of exercise

COMMUNITY

This evidence summary examines how community-based interventions can support young people's social and emotional wellbeing. Due to a scarcity of robust evaluation and reporting taking place across the sector, we selected a wide-range of materials for this review, including systematic reviews, relevant individual studies and case studies from UK-based organisations. Studies examining a range of  young people’s interventions were selected, with most aimed at improving social skills, emotional wellbeing and behavioural difficulties.
